The History of Hourglass Lodge #113

History is defined as the study of past events in the life of an institution. Let us examine the history of this great institution. As we venture into the past let us bring forth the events of this Lodge. We must remember that time stands still for no man so as we look into the past we visualize our brothers having to travel near and far in order to practice masonry and to fellowship. A group of God-fearing men saw the need to petition the Most Worshipful Union Grand Lodge of the State located in Thomasville, Georgia, for a dispensation to practice and study masonry and to spread brotherly love throughout the world.

On June 24, 1892, a warrant of constitution was granted under the name Hourglass Lodge No. 113, located at Ludowici Georgia working under register and jurisdiction of the Most Worshipful Union Grand Lodge of Georgia.

Be it known your first three principle officers were W.E. Shuman, Worshipful Master J.L Baggs, Senior Warden and R. Nedd, Junior Warden. On the date stated above this lodge came into existence. The purpose was to spread brotherly love, goodwill, and charity at home, throughout the land and abroad.

Under the Leadership of the Brother W.E. Shuman, the Lodge began to grow and prosper. The membership grew each passing year and the temple was erected to the house lodge. In the obtaining the temple, our brothers began to spread goodwill at home. Other groups and spiritual organizations with the community utilized the temple. Dues, rent and faithful brothers continue to keep the lodge going.
